Well Inspection

Well InspectionWhat is a Well Inspection?

A well inspection is a comprehensive assessment of the condition and functionality of a well system. A qualified inspector will assess the condition of the well, including the pump, casing, and other components. They’ll also test the water for contaminants and evaluate the well’s yield and flow rate. It typically takes a few hours to complete, depending on the size and complexity of the system.

Why is a Well Inspection Important?

It is an important part of maintaining a safe and reliable source of water for your home or business. Here are a few reasons why well inspections are important:
  • Safety: can detect the presence of contaminants in your water supply, such as bacteria, nitrates, and other harmful substances. Regular well inspections can help prevent serious health problems caused by contaminated water.
  • Reliability: can identify problems with your well system before they become major issues. Catching problems early can save you time and money in the long run.
  • Compliance: It is important to check for any specific local requirements in your area, as regulations can vary. Staying informed about and adhering to these local guidelines will help you maintain a safe and legally compliant well system.
What Happens During a Well-Inspection?
During a well inspection, a qualified inspector will perform various tests and evaluations to assess the condition and functionality of accessible equipment and components, which include but may not be limited to:
  1. Operating at least two fixtures simultaneously
  2. Checking water pressure and flow
  3. Checking the performance of pressure switches
  4. Checking the well head, including improper site drainage and clearances.
  5. Determine the proximity of any known septic system.
  6. Perform or arrange to have water bacteria testing performed.
How Often Should You Schedule?
The frequency of well inspections depends on various factors, including the age and condition of your well system and the quality of your water supply. In general, it’s recommended that you schedule a well inspection at least once a year. Once a year inspections will catch small malfunctions that can save the homeowner a lot of money.
